Synopsis
“And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me.” – [Al-Baqarah – 186]
The verse mentioned above in Surah Al-Baqarah is found in the middle of the discussion on fasting. The verse preceding it speaks about the virtue of Ramadhan and the verse that succeeds it mentions some of the rulings of fasting during Ramadhan.
There is a direct link between du’a and the fasting of Ramadhan as the Prophet ﷺ said: “The supplications of three persons are never turned away: a just ruler, a fasting person until he breaks his fast, and the supplication of an oppressed person.” (Ibn Majah).
That includes the timing of sahur, which is also a timing of accepted istighfar and supplications.
During the the peak of Ramadhan, the angels descend down to the earth, and the earth is overwhelmed with peace and serenity until the break of dawn and when the doors of Paradise are opened, the worshipper is encouraged to turn to Allah to ask for his needs for this world and the hereafter.
